Setting Up The Brewhouse
To get started ezRecipe will need some basic information about your brewing system. If you are not sure which values to add for your brewing system let ezBIAB to do the math for you.
Volume in Gallons: Having the correct amount of post-boil wort is an important step when brewing any recipe. Too much wort leads to lower than expected gravity. Not enough wort leads to an undersized batch. For best results the post-boil volume should be equal to the pre-boil volume minus all wort losses.
The RO Water volume is the amount of brewing water used in the mash. The volume of water and amount of grain combined in the mash determines the mash thickness of the recipe. ezRecipe supports brewing water profile adjustments and provides accurate pH predictions. Mash pH in the 5.2 to 5.6 range increases enzyme activity and conversion of malt starch into fermentable sugars.
Mash Settings: The Mash Efficiency percentage influences the original gravity value of the wort produced. A value of 75% is a good place to start if you are unsure of your systems efficiency. Adjust the percentage up or down until it matches the original gravity of the wort produced. Then use the adjusted percentage as the mash efficiency the next time.
The Mash Temperature influences the fermentability of the wort produced. Target the 146-149F range for thinner body beer. 150-153F for medium body beer. And 154-158F for full body beer.
